Our Beginning

In 1895 Bricelyn Lutheran Church, then known as East Blue Earth Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church, was organized by ten local Norwegian-speaking families. They originally met in homes. In 1896 they purchased two acres of land for $100 and in 1897 built their first church at a total cost of $1,600. This church was later moved to the city of Bricelyn in 1915 where it was used for 43 more years. In 1958 the new church was built on its present site and the name was changed to Bricelyn Lutheran Church in 1960. The older structure was demolished and the new parsonage was erected on the same site in 1963.

Although our lovely church structure has served us well, we consider our church

"a people...not a place."

In 2010, Bricelyn Lutheran Church and North Blue Earth Lutheran Church decided to share in joint ministry.

Stained Glass Windows - South Side of Sanctuary

The stained glass windows in this image are as follows left to right:

  •  Jesus, Chi/Rho. The Greek letters stand for Christ.

  •  John, Poisoned Chalice. It is said an attempt was made on his life by giving him a poisoned chalice.

  •  James, The Brother of John (Major), Shell. The shell is a symbol of his pilrimage by the sea.

  • Thaddaeus (Jude), Ship. The ship is attributed to Thaddaeus because he was thought to be a fisherman.

  •  James, the Son of Alphaeus, Saw. The saw reminds us that James' body was sawed in pieces.

  • Simon the Zealot, Fish Lying on Bible. It denotes that he was a fisher of men through preaching.
